Book of the month #5

Book of the month #5

The book of the month #5 (May 2023) is Little Bee by Chris Cleave. I quickly got into this book. For anyone that’s looking for a book to really get into, to feel some emotion, and to be inspired to make change, I recommend Little Bee.

Little Bee is a fictional (although historical fiction– maybe?) set between London and Nigeria. Its a book about the relationship between an English woman and Nigerian girl. I don’t want to ruin the story, and you can read the summary on the internet or on the back of the book, but here’s my summary:

Trauma of war in Nigeria brings a young woman to London. An English woman plays a role in this trauma. But when they find each other in London, they develop an important relationship. The book takes the reader through immigration detention in London, beachside war in Nigeria, and a suburban home outside of London. They both struggle with their identity and how to forward with their lives.

I’m not recommending this book because I think it will make you want to travel to England or Nigeria. But it’s a powerful story that reminds us of the challenges around the world (near and far).

If you do read it, I hope you enjoy!
